Veggie noodle stir fry

February 15, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

A julienne peeler is an ace little kitchen gadget.

Much cheaper than a spiralizer, less washing up than a food processor, and safer than oh-so-dangerous feeling mandolin. Said peeler will set you back just a few quid, and if you can’t find one in your local supermarket or kitchen shop, try eBay or Amazon. But enough of my sales pitch.

Courgette noodle salad perfect for BBQ’s

July 29, 2014 Hannah Pemberton

I was asked recently to ‘do a bit of food’ for a pitch at work.

In the space of a week it managed to go from a couple of sample dishes using the clients produce to a 5 dish lunch for 15 people. Cooked on the roof. On an industrial BBQ. In 28 degree heat. No pressure then.

Sous vide Thai beef cheek noodle salad

August 7, 2013 Hannah Pemberton

A fashionable cut that’s still affordable.

The beautiful beef cheek lends itself to long, gentle cooking, and is a thing of majesty when slow cooked or casseroled. Add either some beer or wine, stock and vegetables and you can easily create winter one-pot dishes of delight on a budget.

Vietnamese prawn summer rolls with peanut satay

June 10, 2013 Hannah Pemberton

Meet the more virtuous cousin of the pancake roll.

Unlike the crispy skinned, deep fried deliciousness of the Chinese spring roll, Vietnamese summer rolls are super light and healthy, crammed with great textures and fresh Asian flavours that take no time at all to prepare and leave you feeling guilt free.

Oriental pork ‘ragu’ and noodles

November 4, 2012 Hannah Pemberton

A little labour, a lot of love.

There are some evenings I’m happy to spend hours in the kitchen preparing and cooking meals, and then there are times I want to put in minimal effort but still get maximum results. This is one of the dishes I can turn to for just that.

Ramen with oriental style seared pork fillet

April 14, 2012 Hannah Pemberton

Being a purist is a bit overrated. I really can’t help myself when it comes to mixing up Oriental flavours, they just go so darn well together.

In this brothy noodly concoction you’ll find ginger, sake, lemongrass, soy, miso and star anise, ingredients found in dishes all over the far east - they come together in this one aromatically and harmoniously, in fact, the flavours here are so delicious you’d think they were made for each other. Slurp.

Japanese buckwheat soba noodle salad with ginger miso poached chicken

March 28, 2012 Hannah Pemberton

I love noodles. And I need very little in the way of an excuse to whip up a dish using them.

So when the carrot of disco-by-post was dropped in front of me by Wrighty in exchange for a summery Japanese dish, I had no choice but to deliver.

Prawn ramen with miso, homemade dashi and carrot noodle dressing

January 11, 2012 Hannah Pemberton

A noodle dish of epic proportions. Not mine specifically - I mean ramen generally.

If you’re a noodle addict (like me) you’ll know what I mean, this is one of the best noodle dishes you can get. It contains delicious umami flavour, slurpy broth and long and slinky and wiggly noodles all spiked with prawns and crab sticks, a bit of Japanese seven spice pepper and some greens. Food for me doesn’t get much more fulfilling.

Chinese chicken broth with five spice dumplings and rice noodles

September 3, 2011 Hannah Pemberton

Restorative and healthy food of the highest order.

When feeling a little run down (or in my case, like you’ve been overdoing things), chicken noodle soup really does hit the spot. But yeah, you might have guessed, in my world it’s got to be oriental.
