Beef bo kho

March 2, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

A sexed up stew.

As the cold snap continues it seems only right that I continue with some not so cold snap. See what I did there? Sorry, it’s the chill, it’s getting to me.

Beer braised short ribs

February 23, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

Bigger, bolder, beefier.

Beef cooked on the bone always tastes better — it’s bigger, bolder and well, er, beefier. Shame it’s usually super pricey.

Mexican chicken pibil stew

February 15, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

I really enjoy sussing out flavours.

Picking up on ingredients in dishes when I’m out and about and figuring out what’s in them and how their tastes fit together, banking them in my head for future reference when I’m in my kitchen at home. But there are times when try as I might, I haven’t the foggiest what the flavours are that I’m tasting — like the first time I ate the Mexican pibil.

Proper chicken stew and dumplings

November 16, 2014 Hannah Pemberton

Us Brits aren’t famed for our culinary treasures.

Leaf through a historical cook book and you’ll find all sorts of strange dishes (deer kidney with dates, anyone?). But there are some gems that we’ve held on to, like shepherds pie, toad in the hole, the roast dinner, and good old fashioned stew and dumplings.

Lazy lamb tagine

February 7, 2014 Hannah Pemberton

My favourite form of R&R.

The simple truth is I feel most at home and happiest when I’m in the kitchen, and I love nothing more than spending my spare time in there (invariably while wearing my pyjamas, which I find helps cultivate a state of relaxation).

Rustic French fish stew

December 27, 2013 Hannah Pemberton

I’ve been called a magpie once or twice over the years.

I’d like to say it’s purely on account of my eclectic taste and ability to locate interesting finds. But it’s also been said because of my light-fingered mits.

Basque lamb stew

November 17, 2013 Hannah Pemberton

Seasons eatings.

One of the best things about winter is the chance to chow down on melt-in-the-mouth meats cooked long and slow. I am of course talking about the stew.

Carne cocida — shredded Basque beef cheek

August 28, 2013 Hannah Pemberton

Favourite places, new discoveries.

Earlier this year Team Food assembled in the beautiful Basque capital of San Sebastián. Those of you that read regularly will know this is one of my favourite cities, and I love nothing more than a long weekend away sampling its delights (see picture reels below as evidence).
