Hasselback sweet potato

February 22, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

The sweetest potato.

The sweet potato is crammed full of nutrients as well as being high on the comfort scale. I like to roast it hasselback style, topped with chopped chillies, salt and fresh rosemary. Like this it’s the perfect side to steaks, stewed chicken or even a hearty slow cooked lamb shank.

Dhal soup and prawn skewers

February 22, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

A souper New Year.

For the third issue of Superfood Magazine I was asked to come up with six soup recipes, dishes to warm your wintery cockles and that put a spring in your step, and this was one I just had to include.

Bourbon and clementine salmon

February 22, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

Every party needs a centrepiece.

And over the years salmon has often been it. Whether it’s been poached and served with chilled cucumber or smoked and scoffed with buttered brown bread, we’ve enjoyed this delicious fish gracing our tables dressed up in a number of ways.

Spanish omelette

February 15, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

The Spanish omelette or tortilla is a classic on tapas and pintxos menus, but as well as being delicious for lunch and dinner I think it makes a great breakfast or brunch.

Mushroom risotto soup

January 15, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

No longer a labour of love.

I do love a risotto, but all that stirring? It’s enough to drive a girl mad. The good news is you can make a rich risotto without having to slave over the hob — because with this recipe the oven does all the work.

Beetroot cured salmon

January 15, 2016 Hannah Pemberton

Party perfection.

Yes, that season is almost upon us. It’ll soon be time to get out the cocktail sticks and spear all manner of pastry goods, deep fry little parcels of deliciousness and make merry with cocktails, fizz and mulled wine.

Mini millionaire shortbreads

November 7, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

One for the road.

I think this might be my last proper recipe post and picture for a little while. Today I’m 40 weeks pregnant and as much as I’d like to think I’ll be able to have babyfruit in one arm and a wooden spoon/camera in another, I think it might take me a while to build up to that level of multitasking.

Brioche bread and butter pud

November 1, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

The king of puddings.

A far cry from the bread and butter pudding of my childhood, where scorched little raisins sat on top of burnt bread with a soggy milky underside (sorry auntie, puds just weren’t your forte) this one is rich and creamy, full of fresh homemade vanilla custard that’s soaked in to soft buttery brioche and comes complete with a crisp creme brûlée style top.

Beef and horseradish crostini

November 1, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

A very British canapé.

Beef and horseradish are best friends that hold a special place in many a Brit’s heart. But contrary to popular belief, they don’t only have to put in an appearance at Sunday lunch. Oh no.

They go a treat on a delicate little crostini too, making them ideal snackage for parties, soirees or any good old fashioned booze-ups you might be planning for this coming festive season. I created these beefy little bites for Superfood Magazine’s Christmas special along with 9 others.

Coconut sandwich cookies

November 1, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

A delicious detour.

It turns out that pregnancy isn’t something that can be controlled. Sure, you can steer things in the direction you want them to go, but ultimately, it’s going to go how it’s going to go.

Raspberry and coconut cake

October 5, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

Love you long time.

Laksa, tom kha soup and the piña colada are just a few of my favourite coconutty things, and now the coconut is having its moment in fashion I get to scoff it in all manner of stuff from snack bars to juices, which pleases me no end.

Cold brew iced coffee

September 26, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

This is the shizzle.

‘Cold brew’. I know I know, it sounds a bit hip. Which is probably why I’ve noticed a thing for swigging cold brew coffee straight out of brown glass bottles in the morning round Shoreditch.

Salted caramel chocolate brownies

June 10, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

No messing about.

Given the comments, ooh’s and aah’s I’ve heard after posting this recipe on Twitter, Insta and taking a few squares of it in to the office, instead of wait until I had time to write an intro I thought it best for everyone concerned that I get the recipe up pronto.

Grown ups brunch

May 31, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

A very British brunch.

I’ve had more than my fair share of Bloody Mary’s over the years and reckon I’ve given most incarnations a go. I love those that are generous in their spicing, I quite like the ones with grated fresh horseradish (as long as they’re served ice cold), I’m not sure about the tablespoon of red wine one, I don’t like the ones made with chilli vodka, and as far as I’m concerned, jalapeños and pickles have no place in a good BM in my book.

Mini tortillas

May 31, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

Picnic perfection.

Picnics are a great playground for the cooks imagination. As we swap our sofas and dining tables for the great outdoors, it’s chance to not just take indoor food outside, but to get inventive with ingredients as we have a bit more fun in the sun.

Fragrant stir fried lamb

May 31, 2015 Hannah Pemberton

New ways with lamb.

I’m fairly new to cooking lamb Chinese style at home. Beef and chicken are my go-to meats of choice for stir fries, but lamb makes a tasty change, especially with white pepper and fresh coriander root.
